Hymns in the Home

a conversational curriculum for families to use during meals or devotions

Learn about the lives of the poet and composer in order to know the stories of Christians throughout the ages.

Read selected Bible verses that the hymn is based on so you know the foundation of each verse.

Engage with the hymn text through questions and answers to cultivate a rich appreciation for the meaning of the words.

Enjoy classical Christian art related to the hymn and make use of the timeline, geography exercises, and optional activities.

Use simplified hymn arrangements for your children to learn at the piano and even accompany the family.

Sing the hymn together as a family, treasuring the melding of text, tune, and familial voices.

Etch the words and tunes of the Church’s songs into your minds and hearts as you gain a deeper understanding of the Word of God and all He has done for us.

Hymns in the Home FAQs

How much does the curriclum cost?

All aspects of Hymns in the Home (including the curriculum, piano music, art, resources, etc.) are free.

How can I get my own copy?

Send an email to info@hymnsinthehome.com with the subject line Hymns in the Home. You’ll receive a pdf copy of the introduction and will be emailed again when the first five hymns are released in Fall 2024. Those five hymns will be a test version and you’ll have the opportunity to try the curriculum out and give feedback to improve the official version, set to be released in Spring 2025.

Our family life is packed. How could we possibly add one more thing?

This conversational curriculum is set up to be flexible, so you can use as little or as much as your schedule allows. By tying the conversation to a specific meal of the day or daily devotional time, it flows naturally into your schedule.

What if we’re not great at carrying a tune a capella?

One great option is to have a family member accompany on the piano. In the future, there will also be free recordings available.

Can my church or school use this?

Hymns in the Home is to encourage singing in the home. However, the format could be used in a Bible study or school setting - ideally in a way that would help teach and encourage parents to use it in their homes.

What hymns are included in the program?

Hymns in the Home is a work in progress, released slowly over time. The complete curriculum will eventually cover 100 hymns, covering five themes:

  • Set 1: Hymns of the Early Church

  • Set 2: Hymns of the Reformation

  • Set 3: Hymns of the Life of Christ

  • Set 4: Hymns of the Church Year

  • Set 5: Hymns of the Christian Life

Most of the hymns are in the Lutheran Service Book.
